A Mix of Thoughts + a Winner

This has been the most hectic week I have had in a while it seems. For some reason everything was due (or needed to be started) this week. Luckily it is almost the weekend and I couldn't be happier about that. Since my mind is all over the place I am just doing a little "mix" for today. You get what you get ;-)

  • Most importantly.... I have a winner for the Sweet Tea Paperie giveaway! The lucky winner is Courtney from You, Me + Sophie! email me at ehn410 {at} gmail {dot} com!

  • I did a little retail therapy yesterday at J.Crew. The factory store has so many great pieces right now. It took every bone in my body to not get one of everything! Instead, I settled for a pair of hot pink shorts and a cute and summery printed skirt. Conveniently, I have to pass by the outlets on my way home tomorrow so I will probably stop by again. #shoppingaddict

  • I get my Kindle Fire tomorrow! I am so excited to download a ton of books and get to reading! Any last minute book suggestions? I have written down all of your suggestions :-)
  • I finally got up the nerve to make a {bright} statement on campus with my new neon bag. When you carry this you reallllly have to own it. So, I decided to own it! I have gotten a ton of compliments (and surprisingly, no crazy looks!)
  • My birthday is in 12 days!!! This time last year I was so impatient waiting for my 21st year to get here. This year it's just another birthday and the realization that I am going to be an adult (I was already an adult but now I have to make adult decisions and have an adult job! AHHH)
  • Speaking of being an adult... this whole job search thing is so hard! I feel like it is a full time job trying to find a job. I will admit I am a planner and I started searching entirely too early (like Nov/Dec) so I feel like I have done twice the work but just now seeing results. I had a phone interview last week that I think went well, I guess time will tell!
Nothing wrong with getting dressed up during a phone interview! ;-)
  • I have 42 days until graduation..... oh my gosh. It seemed like it would never get here and it has creeped up QUICKLY. I have so much that I need to do, so much that I want to do, and so many things that I don't want to end in that amount of time. I am ready to start the next chapter of my life though!
I will miss the beautiful sunsets....a lot.

You now know everything going on in my mind now!
Happy Thursday!

Fired Up!

I have always loved reading. I can recall going to the bookstore with my mom and buying all kinds of books. And spending rainy days reading with her. It has always been a great way to bond with each other. I guess you could say my love for reading came from my mom (Thanks mom!!)

I enjoy actually holding the book, the smell of books, and seeing how many page in I have gotten in a book. When e-readers first came out I was 100% against them for the above reasons. I couldn't fathom not going to a bookstore and buying a book, reading it, and placing it proudly on my shelf once I was finished.

But..... all of this changed when I went on my cruise in December. In my carry-on I brought four books. I knew I would have plenty of time to read while relaxing and being cut off from media! However, what I didn't realize was how much of a pain it would be to carry around those books...or how much room it would take up. And that is when my view of e-readers changed dramatically. Suddenly it didn't seem like a bad idea to have my books on one.

I, of course, got an idea in my brain and couldn't let it go. I decided to do some research, go to Best Buy and play with them, and finally decided that I wanted one.

So now I'm all fired up about my Kindle Fire!

Many people told me to just get an iPad, but with my family having four and me having  both a Macbook Pro and an iPhone I really just didn't see a point! I am so excited to get my Kindle Fire on Friday when I go home. That may be the only thing getting me through this stressful week!

For those of you that have Kindle Fires......
- Is there anything I need to know?
- Tips/Tricks/Advice?
- What are the best cases?
- Can we share books?
- And better yet...what are your favorite books that I should download and read? I am up for any suggestions! (note: I have read HG, Water for Elephants, all Sophie Kinsella, all Nicholas Sparks, all Sarah Dessen!)

1, 2, 3... GO!

Marley Lilly Review

Happy Wednesday! Can you believe the week is half way over? I am definitely looking forward to the weekend and hopefully some more wonderful spring weather! A while back I was contacted by Marley Lilly to do a product review for the Marley Lilly Derby Hat! I went back and forth debating what colors to get when I finally decided on black font + black rim! I know....how boring! But, most of my bathing suits have black in them and I have a ridiculous amount of black dresses to wear it with in the summer.

I had a great sunhat from J.Crew but packing it to travel so much over the past two years it had finally gotten a hole in it and bit the bust. :-( So upon receiving it I was thrilled! The ML Derby Hat definitely exceeded my expectations. I love the way it lays (this is an extremely important detail with floppy hats!)

I am so excited to wear it this summer on my many trips to the beach! Here are a few outfits that I think this hat would look great with!

Do you like the floppy hat trend? Do you have a ML one?

Hunkered Down with a Good Book

Hello! I haven't participated in Top 5 Tuesday with Rachel from Just Peachy in a while but when I saw the topic for this week I knew I just had to! The topic for this week is BOOKS. I love to read. If my job could consist of reading books for a living (or even reviewing books) I would totalllly be ok with it! So without further adieu my five favorite books...and authors!

You can also find books I've read, reviewed, and want to read on Good Reads! You can find me here!

1. "I've Got Your Number" by Sophia Kinsella
I have read every single book by Sophie Kinsella and this one may have been my favorite. She is a witty and hilarious author and every book is guaranteed to be a page turner. This book did not let me down. I read it start to finish in three days. If you are looking for a fun and easy read I highly suggest this one!

2. "Salem Falls," "Nineteen Minutes," "Plain Truth" by Jodi Picoult
Jodi Picoult is definitely in my top three favorite authors. I have never been disappointed in any of her books and I have read nearly all of them. She reels you in from the first few pages and is always keeping you guessing until the last page. I love that she researches her books and ideas and then write from her findings. It makes them that much more interesting! If you haven't read her books these are ones I suggest!

3. "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen
I was late to jump on the bandwagon for this book....as I am for most books! But I am so glad I decided to read it. I loved the time period, the details, and of course the animals. Upon finishing the book I watched the movie and I am 100% obsessed. I watch the movie alllll the time.

4. "The Choice," "The Guardian," "The Last Song," "The Lucky One" by Nicholas Sparks
I have read Nicholas Sparks since my parents allowed me. I absolutely LOVE that all of his books take place in NC. His descriptions take me to some of my favorite beaches and areas of my home state so I have a true love for his books. They are so romantic and page turners. The Last Song I finished in 24 hours (and was SOOO disappointed in the movie....) I am so excited The Lucky One is becoming a movie- I just hope this one is done better!

5. The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins
Ok... I know, I know. You've heard this from everyone. Believe me, I didn't want to buy into all the hype either. I actually put these off as often as I could....and then I caved. I have had my nose in these three books all of break. They are nothing I would have ever chosen for myself to read (I tend to go for the chick lit) but they are 100% amazing. I am looking froward to seeing the movie this weekend!

What are your favorite books?

Spring Break Wrap-up

Happy Monday everyone! I am wrapping up Spring Break here at home and I can't decide if I am ready to go back to school or not. I have had ten glorious days of relaxation, good food & fun times with my family. I know as soon as I get back to school I will be homesick again (yes I'm 22 and get homesick still!) But, with less than two months left until graduation I am ready to go back and finish strong in school and make some lasting memories! I better live it up because I know I will miss college once it has come and gone! I seriously can't believe I am so close to being done....where does the time go?!

Anyways, before I get all sentimental and cry (kidding....kind of) I will update y'all on my last few days at home! Nothing too exciting over here.

When it gets warm out my family tends to go to our country club more. There is so much more to do when it is warm and sitting on the wrap around porch at the club is one of them! My parents took off work early one day and we spend the day sipping margaritas and enjoying the beautiful spring weather!

While my parents have been working I have been spending a LOT of time on our deck with Dingo and reading The Hunger Games trilogy! I am not on the third book and I still love it. There have been so many twists and turns throughout the book that it always leaves me wondering (and with bags under my eyes because I can't stop reading!!)
Usually St. Patrick's Day is a big deal to me, but this year I decided to lay low. I had thought about going to Charlotte to visit Hunter & go to the bar crawl but I had second thoughts about being around tons of drunk people and thought better of it & just stayed home! My family went to dinner at Bonefish and I sipped on Hypnotiq martinis and ate crab cakes....hey that's good enough for me ;-)

Greysen and I...she's anti green!

We took Dingo to the park on Sunday and he loved to swing!

And just for your entertainment........ my dad was visiting my sick grandmother this weekend in TN and decided to flood my inbox with baby pictures. Meet me circa 1993...bangs, neon windsuit and all hahaha. Happy Monday!

PS: Who is watching PLL for "A DAY???!!!!!???"

Go Green!

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!

I hope everyone has a very green day filled with lots of fun
(and maybe even some green beer!) :-)

Don't forget to add some green in your life today! Here are some ideas!

What are you doing for St. Patty's Day?

Everyone needs a good pair of flats. Flats are quickly becoming my go-to shoe! For years and years I would stay far far away from flats, no matter how cute they were. However, after learning the best way to break them in (and knowing that Nordstrom can stretch them for you) I have been stocking up! Lately, I have found myself perusing websites and stores for all kinds of flats. My collection is quickly growing.... and I'm not sure how I will ever wear them all!

Flats can be worn with anything.... dresses, shorts, jeans, and skirts. But they can also wear blisters on your feet...When I first buy flats I wear big thick socks with them around the house to stretch them out a bit. This has worked wonders. I had a pair of flats that I loved but couldn't wear for more than five minutes without them hurting, but after I learned of this sock trick I have worn them like crazy! (yes I may look crazy around the house but it is well worth it to not be covered in band-aids!)

There are quite a few pairs of flats that have peaked my interest lately, so of course I have to share them with you!

Spring Break...past & present

Hello everyone! I haven't blogged in quite some time and I'm sorry about that! I am currently having a bloggers block (along with AT&T U-verse internet has been horrible lately!) I feel like I have so many things I want to talk about but then I just get so busy that I forget to blog! Oops, my apologies :-)

This week I am on Spring Break.... so why am I blogging then? This year I decided not to do anything for Spring Break besides come home and relax. I have gone on fun trips every single year and honestly when I return I feel like I need a vacation from the vacation I just had!

Freshmen Year: DC & Cancun. I can't find any photos from DC on this computer! But Cancun was a blast! I went with my mom and out family friends and had so much fun.

Sophomore Year: Winter Park,Florida (Rollins College) My best friend, Brooke, and I went to visit our good friend Virginia at her beautiful school in Florida and had so much fun & met so many great people!

Junior Year: Destin, Florida. Basically our whole school made the trip (12 hr) to Destin so we all had a blast! It was a little cold still but we all had SO much fun! That's a trip I definitely won't forget!

So this year is definitely a change for me, but I am ok with it! It has been beautiful weather in my hometown (in the 70s/80s) so I have spent a ton of time reading outside, shopping (a lot), and spending time with my family!

The Hunger Games series has taken over my life! I started them three days ago and I'm nearly half way through with the second book! If you haven't jumped on the Hunger Games bandwagon I highly suggest that you do! I never in a million years would have chosen this type of book for myself but I am so glad I decided to read it!

Fill in the Blank Friday

Happppy Friday everyone! I wasn't sure if I would make it ;-) I have my midterm at 11 and then I am on Spring Break! I haven't done a link up in a while so I thought I would join in on Fill in the Blank Friday with The Little Things We Do! The theme for today is house decor, which I love! Although I currently live in my college apartment I already have SO many items and ideas for my post-grad apartment!

1.  My favorite room in my home is     my bedroom    because     it's where I spend a good amount of time, whether I'm watching TV, studying, getting ready in the mornings or just relaxing!

2.   My current decor style is    clean and simple .  but I wish it were more     modern-ish. I love the look of modern items and think some modern items would be a great touch in my post-grad apartment! I like mixing the new with the old .

3.  I wish I could redecorate the     bathroom     room in my house to make it more      put together. My college bathroom isn't very cutesy- I didn't paint or hang anything but I look forward to doing that in my next place .

4. My dream house absolutely has to have a   A HUGE closet. Like a Carrie Bradshaw closet or I will be storing clothes, shoes, and purses at my parents house forever! .

5. One house item I am willing to splurge on is   bedding....you sleep on/in it, so why not make it something you like to sleep with..

6. A decor trend that I just don't "get" is   the whole open kitchen-no cabinets type thing. I don't know why but I just am NOT a fan. I feel like some things need to have privacy...even plates, cups, and bowls! I don't know why they need to be on display. Maybe it's just all the ones I've seen I haven't liked- someone prove me wrong!   .

7.   pictures and prints all over    is a little touch that makes my house feel like home

Random weekend recap!

Do you ever have one of those weekends where you think "This is just what I needed?" That was this weekend for me. After a very rough week at school I decided I needed to take a trip down the mountain to home sweet home. I was greeted with open arms by my mom and my most precious puppy,Dingo! I knew it would be a good weekend, and it definitely was.

Thursday night we ate dinner at P.F. Changs, one of my favorite places! I indulged in crab wontons & a few Lucky Cat martinis. Of course no dinner is complete without dessert! I had a mini Red Velvet cake, my favorite! It was a great way to start my weekend!

On Saturday my parents hosted a big Carolina v. Duke party! It was a huge hit. My parents absolutely love to entertain and this was our first party in our new house! We had food catered, hired our favorite bartender from our country club and had so much fun! Luckily Bre was in town so she was able to join in on the fun!

sweet Holly, how cute is she?!

After feeling a little under the weather on Sunday, I decided to delay my drive back up the mountain another day. I spent Sunday shopping for home decor stuff (love it!!!) and then we ate at a new neighborhood pizza place and it was so so good!

Monday I woke up bright and early to head back up the mountain. Little did I know what I was heading back to..... snow. And freeeezzzzing temperatures. Oh, and very high winds. Needless to say I was not happy to be back but excited that spring break is only 3 days away. Get me to Friday!!!!

Style Inspiration: March

Happy March (rabbit rabbit) everyone! I am so excited that it is March for many reasons. March usually means it starts to warm up and it is finally appropriate to wear all of those brightly colored outfits that we have all been eyeing all winter. This winter the weather has been pretty mild (and actually pretty warm) but I refuse to wear spring and summer clothes in the winter months.... just my opinion ha!

I really like finding new style inspiration so I decided that at the beginning of each month I will post my inspiration for the month!

Spring is in the air...

Spring lines and collections definitely don't disappoint this year. There are so many items on my spring wish list....and it just keeps growing and growing!

1. Colored Pants
I was a little unsure about colored pants at first but when I laid eyes on a hot pink pair I knew I had to give them a try. And, ya'll there is no going back. I have become obsessed with them. Today I even bought a pair of coral pants from H&M for $12! I love that these can be easily dressed up or down!

2. Blue
I have always loved shades of blue, but Royal Blue definitely takes the cake! Today I found THE perfect blue dress that is so versatile! I can't wait to see the many ways to wear it. I love the Old Navy blue cap toe flats. Blue totally fits my style, especially in the spring and summer.

This neon trend can be found EVERYWHERE this year. Seriously y'all there hasn't been a single website or store that I have viewed or gone into that didn't have it. Everywhere from Target to Kate Spade is trying the trend- which is great for everyone's different budget! I have gotten a few items that are neon, mostly from J.Crew, F21 & Target but I can't wait to add more to my wardrobe!

There is certainly not a shortage of cute items that I will be adding to my wish list this March!
