Friday Five

Happy Friday, ladies & gents!
{insert silly Happy Friday dance here}
I am so glad it is finally the weekend. I opted to take off Monday instead of Friday, so I am looking forward to a long holiday weekend! I can't wait to sleep in, relax, and celebrate the holiday with family. Do you have any big plans?

{one}
I love Easter. Any holiday that involves bunnies, pastels, and signs of spring is good to me! Last year my step-dad forgot to get me an Easter basket and I miiight have had an Easter meltdown. Needless to say, he texted me last night informing me that the Easter bunny DEFINITELY would not be forgetting me this year. I better still be getting an Easter basket full of Peeps, Reese's eggs, and other fun stuff! (someone please tell me I'm not alone in still wanting an Easter basket?!?)

{two}
Mint has become my new obsession. I liked it a lot last spring and summer, but this year I have fallen head over heels in love with it. Borderline obsession, really. So, when I saw Petal updating their website with a ton of awesome mint items I died. (well, almost....I'm still here.)  They graciously sent me the first mint bow dress and I am in l-o-v-e. Can the weather please cooperate with my need for spring so I can wear this beauty? P.S. Isn't their model, Chelsey, the cutest?!

{three}
Earlier this week Last Call Neiman Marcus had their Jack Rogers on sale. You better believe that as soon as I got the email I scooped up a pair. They were 40% off....can't beat that! I got this pewter pair. I think they will pair well with my outfits this summer!

{four}
This has been one of the busiest weeks work wise for me. With the holiday coming up and me being off on Monday I have been absolutely slammed. My parent's (and owners of the company I work for) are going out of the country for ten days, which pretty much means I will be doing 3x my work & running the company during that time. Add in stress, being overwhelmed, and exhausted and it is NOT a pretty sight. at all. Needless to say I have been (and will be) relying on Starbucks to keep me chugging right along!

{five}
I'm joining {long distance loving} once again for Friday Fancies! This week is all about pastels, which I love! This Tibi dress caught my eye as soon as I saw it in stores. The possibilities with this pastel number are endless. I paired it with the Charlotte Street Sloan Kate Spade bag to bring out the pink. I styled it with gold accessories and Jack Rogers for a more casual look!

Essential iPhone Apps

Last Friday I finally received my iPhone 5! I had been anticipating this since I found out the date of my upgrade! My iPhone 4 had been acting crazy. The home button only worked when it wanted to...which really makes using a touch screen hard! When it arrived on Friday I was elated (and I may have actually hugged the UPS man for being early!) no judging!
Anyways, on my iPhone 4 I ended up downloading a ton of useless apps that took up so much space and really slowed down my phone a lot. On my iPhone 5 I want to keep everything simple, organized and de-cluttered. These are the apps that I deemed "necessary" to have!

Goodreads: I am a huge reader so this app is completely necessary. It's the convenience of this app that is so great. If I am at target or a book store I can scan the book and add it to my "to-read" list (so that i can download it on my Kindle). It's also great because I am one of those people who ALWAYS picks up a book that looks good and think "Have I read this before??" By pulling up the app I can see if I have read it or not.

Bloglovin': Now that Google Reader is going away I needed to find a new way to keep up with my favorite blogs. I have really been impressed with Bloglovin' as a whole. Their readability is clean. The following is easy (except for that pesky number that hovers over my page when I get behind in reading blogs!!) and the mobile app is very user friendly! Now I can keep up with all my favorites on the go.

Flixster: If you are a movie lover like me, then you need this app! I always look up what movies are new to theaters or what rating a movie got (and probably judge it by that....). I also like that you can look up older movies and get the cast info, the rating, and a synopsis (that doesn't ruin the entire movie)!

RunKeeper: Now that I have gotten back into running I decided that I needed something to keep up with my runs and my progress.... in comes the RunKeeper app. It tracks my runs, my paths, my calories burned, and my progress! I love how it shows me how I've done compared to my last run and the last week's stats. It also allows me to jot down my thoughts on that particular run. It really pushes me to improve and do better.

Tweetbot: Let's face it....I'm addicted to social media, mainly twitter and instagram. This is the only Twitter app that I have tried and fully 100% been satisfied with. It never shuts down or stops notifying me of tweets. And that's important for this twitter-loving girl. The best part?? The awesome noises and notifications it sends. That makes the app worth the money!

Pandora: I am one of those people who is constantly listening to music. I turn my Pandora app on when I am in the shower, when I'm getting ready for work, and plug it into my car on long trips. It is perfect, but, you already knew that didn't you?

Daily Mail Online: If you care about fashion, celebrities, and the like then you NEED to get this app ASAP! I love getting on this app and seeing the latest Kim K. drama, or Lindsay Lohan's mug shot. It's my guilty pleasure. I like the share feature on it. It allows me to automatically share Miley's awful hair do with my twitter followers in the matter of seconds! Get it, now...promise you won't regret it!

Instagram: Does this even need an explanation? I didn't think so. Follow me here!

Typic: I recently discovered this app and I am glad I did. This app is great for adding text to photos. You can choose from an assortment of different filters, fonts, sizes, and banners! It adds a little "pizazz" to any photo!

What are essential apps for your phone?

What I Wore: Leather Peplum Top + Leather Leggings

My new found love for leather is out of control.
Once I found my perfect leather leggings it was on.
Lately I have had the ability to find anything and everything leather...and instantly fall in love.
Which is exactly what happened when I found this leather peplum top at Urban Outfitters.
It was love at first try-on.

Leather + peplum = pure fashionista happiness.

Weekend Recap: Beach Edition

Happy Monday, friends! I hope you all had a great weekend. This past weekend Brian and I ventured to the beaches of N.C. with friends! The weather wasn't exactly what we were hoping for, but it was a good time, nonetheless!

As soon as Brian and I got into Wilmington we took a drive through UNCW's campus! That is his alma mater. It was fun seeing where he lived and went to school. I still can't believe I didn't end up going there....sigh. (someone remind me why I chose the mountains over the beach?!?) We then drove to Wrightsville beach! There is seriously no place that makes me more happy! So many fun times and fun memories. We immediately jumped out of the car and onto the (freezing cold) beach! Funny how being at the beach can immediately bring happiness!
 Even though we couldn't spend much time out on the beach due to the cooler weather we made Saturday a fun day of exploring! We started the day off in Carolina Beach at Britt's Donuts. If you are ever in the area I highly suggest going there....the best homemade donuts. Well worth the wait! I always forget how good they are until I have one again.
Afterwards we took the ferry over to Southport to play around the town! Southport is such a quaint and cute little town. I hadn't been there in a while, so it was fun to see the little shops and restaurants in the area. The weather finally started to clear up a little and we thought that was the perfect opportunity to head back to Wilmington and have some fun downtown!
As soon as we started getting into downtown Wilmington it immediately got sunny! It was the perfect weather (in our circumstamces) to roam around downtown and on the Riverwalk. Downtown Wilmington is so picturesque. The cute boutiques, the excellent restaurants, cobbled streets, and beautiful views of the river are simply perfect! It was such a fun afternoon with friends. We ended the day at one of my favorite restaurants, Front Street Brewery, for a little raspberry wheat beer and shrimp!  I'm so glad we had the chance to escape to the beach for the weekend, even if the weather wasn't the best!

To top off a great weekend I even found the perfect dress for Barrister Ball! That was a huge relief off my shoulders! Now I am so ready for that night :)
no trip would be complete without a photo in front of Princess street ;)

It's safe to say that my beach weekend made me want spring and summer weather here NOW!

Welcoming Spring

Happy first day of spring, everyone!
I am thrilled that spring has finally arrived! I don't know about in your area, but in N.C. I wish the weather would understand that spring has arrived and so should the spring weather. Our weather has been so bizarre lately; warm and sunny one day, cold and rainy the next. Ugh! Earlier this week I decided to go through my iPhoto to do some organizing and cleaning out of my photos. Little did I know that it would lead to nostalgia of spring and warmer temperatures. Through my photos I realized how much I love spring and all it has to offer!

Attend Baseball Games
In the spring I love going to our hometown baseball games. My family has season tickets so I get to enjoy the weather and outdoor sports simultaneously! Another great aspect of the baseball games is their Bark Park nights where you are invited to bring your animals out on the lawn to enjoy the game! You know Dingo and I are suckers for that! ;-)

Watch the Flowers Bloom
Here in my town we have a ton of beautiful flower parks and gardens. Each year right as spring rolls in I take my DSLR camera and have a blast capturing all the beauty these areas have to offer. It is so nice and relaxing to walk through the seven acres of paths filled with beautiful flowers on each side! How can you not be cheery surrounded by that?!?

Wear Spring-y Clothes
If there is one thing I look forward to it is definitely shedding my sweaters and winter layers for flowy tops and dresses! I live for the day when I finally get to pull out my spring items from storage and add them to my closet (eep, I may have already done this!) The styling choices for spring are always so amazing.

Playing Outside with Dingo
This guy just "gets" spring and being outside. Reading a book outside? He's in my lap. Doing a little porch drinking? He's basking in the sunlight next to me! He is a lover of sunshine in the spring and summer, and that makes him the best dog ever (but I may be a little biased!)

Enjoy Evening Sunsets
Is there anything better than it being lighter until 7:30 p.m.?? I think the only thing that may beat that are the beautiful evening sunsets that follow. I can't tell you how often I bring along my camera when I know I will be somewhere around sunset....just so I can capture it's beauty (I guess that's the photographer in me!) I am a complete sucker for sunsets and they always put me in the happiest moods! While sunsets in the winter are alright, nothing compares to the beauty of the ones in spring!

Attending Outdoor Concerts
Spring means one thing in the music industry....the return of outdoor concerts. And in turn that leads to one happy Emily! I look forward to seeing the line ups of outdoor concerts in my area. It is so fun to get a big group together for a fun outdoor concert!

Going to the Beach
The return of spring means the return of beach days! I am only a three hour drive to the beach so it is perfect when I can make weekend trips to bask in the sunlight and lay in the sand. I'm heading to the beach this weekend with Brian and friends and we're crossing our fingers for great weather for the first weekend of spring!

What are some things you look forward to in spring?

Weekend Recap: St. Patty's Edition

Hello, ladies & gents!
I am back (and alive) after a weekend full of festivities!
If you recall in Friday's post, this past weekend was Charlotte's 13th Annual St. Patty's Day Bar Crawl! It is one of the biggest in America, with over 15,000 participants! If you think Brian and I woke up at 9:30 a.m. and were blasting Irish music while making a big breakfast for everyone, then you are 100% correct! Brian is Irish so this day is especially fun for him! Our friends came over and we did a little pre-gaming before the bar crawl began! We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. It was so much fun! I saw lots of friends I knew & even met some new friends, which is always a plus! (bottom left: I met Caitlin from Southern Curls and Pearls and she is the absolute cutest!!!)

On St. Patrick's Day we took it easy! The Bar Crawl definitely won out this weekend. We walked uptown and grabbed some lunch before heading to my dad's house! I sported my green at least for a little bit! Isn't this shirt just the cutest?!? I will definitely be wearing this more as the weather warms up!

I am so glad I got to spend some time with my family! My brother, Dylan, and Brian get along so well it's almost scary! It's really a blessing. I wish we could have stayed longer. Unfortunately Brian and I both ended up getting really sick with a stomach bug on Sunday night....not the ideal way to spend our last night of the weekend. Hopefully we will both be back to normal ASAP!

How was your St. Patty's Day weekend?
Any fun adventures?

{Friday Five}

Happy Friday,friends!
{insert my Friday dance here!}
Here's what has been on my mind this week!

{one}
Tomorrow is Charlotte's St. Patty's Day bar crawl. There will be lots of green, tons of people, a lot of beer, which all equals a lot of fun! I am so excited to participate in the biggest St. Patty's bar crawl in America! Last year there were over 15,000 people! Be sure to follow me on instagram for fun photos from the day!

{two}
I am really starting to see improvement in my running! I've been tracking my runs and setting goals with the Run Keeper app. Is is such a good feeling to see improvement. It also helps that I have a pushing and supportive boyfriend that wants to make this a hobby we can do together! Total this week I've run around seven miles. For many that may not be a big deal, but for me that is! I had to document my runner's high earlier this week when I made it to my favorite bridge!

{three}
I have been obsessing over big, bright statement necklaces lately. I really just can't get enough! These are my favorites that I've come across recently!
one // two // three // four //

{four}
I'm linking up with the fabulous AMV from {long distance loving} for Friday Fancies! This is one linkup I look forward to every week and this week was no exception! Holidays to me are an excuse to dress up using the colors of the holiday! if I weren't wearing a t-shirt for the bar crawl all day Saturday I would be wearing a fun little outfit like this! I am trying to get as much wear out of my leather leggings before it's time to put them away for the season!
st patricks day

{five}
Charlie update: Y'all are fooled by his cuteness on Instagram and my blog...but let me tell you, during his 11p.m and 3:30 a.m. shenanigans he is anything but cute! He is a sweet angel until it comes time for me to go to bed (when I shut him out of my room) and then he instantly turns into the devil cat. Attempting to climb my curtains, eating my Williams Sonoma kitchen towels, and trying his best to open my cabinet to get to his treats. After a long day earlier this week he was really testing my patience, I finally squirted him like crazy with his "bad cat" water bottle and he was silent all night. But being the loving cat mom that I am (HA!) I felt bad this morning and gave him a lot of kisses :)
.....because how can I actually be mad at that sweet face?!?!? (until tonight...)

have a happy weekend, everyone!

What I Wore: Emerald Green Outfit

I have always been a huge fan of green! Bright Green. Seafoam Green. Lime Green. Kelly Green. But I have to say, emerald green is one of my favorites, by far. It is one of those colors that is simply stunning. No matter what the item is, it always looks a little better when it's emerald color! I also really like that it's a color that most people can pull off! It goes well with most all skin tones and hair colors!

With St. Patrick's Day coming up (just a few more days!!) I am starting to notice green items everywhere! I love an excuse to be festive for any holiday and this is one of my favorites! I fell in love almost instantly with this outfit. The emerald green + my blonde hair seem to be the perfect match! Add in my statement necklace and it's a match made in heaven! Perfect for St. Patrick's Day activities!

Bargain Beauty Products (+ a giveaway!)

I am always on the search for the newest, best bargain when it comes to beauty supplies. Naturally, when I'm a Target I find myself perusing every makeup and beauty aisle to see if something catches my eye... and you know it always does, because it's Target! Let's face it, we all know by now that we can't get out of Target with only what's on our list. It's like a known thing! (and if you can...please teach me your ways!)

While I love splurging on the occasional beauty product (that I know I like and works) I am much more of a bargainista when it comes to beauty supplies! If it works and it's not expensive, then why pay more?!?

beauty bargains

1. Maybelline Volume Express Mascara If there is one thing that I love it is mascara. If I don't do a single thing to my face, I at least swipe on mascara. The brush on this particular mascara is amazing! For $6.99 you really can't beat it. This left my lashes looking full and long.

2. Hair Elastics While the "name brand" and "blogger noticed" are great...at the end of the day they are hair ties. There is no need to pay $13 for a pack of five for the name. At Target, these come in a ton of colors in three-packs and are usually two for five. They are great for when running or working out and don't leave much of a crease in your hair, which is always a plus.

3. Clear Shampoo and Conditioner I first had the opportunity to try this shampoo and conditioner when I received it in a Influenster Blog Box. I instantly fell in love. It left my hair feeling soft and full and not weighed down! With me having super thin hair, it's easy for shampoos and conditioners to weigh my hair down and make it look (more) flat. I love the results I get when I use this shampoo.

4. E.l.f. Blush I am going to 100% say that this has become my favorite blush. I was amazed when I found this for $3. I am currently using "tickled pink" and it is extremely close to NARS Orgasm....at a fraction of the cost! It doesn't wear off easily, either!

5. E.l.f. Makeup Brushes Gone are the days when I would spend $18-$50 on a single makeup brush! E.l.f. brushes are awesome! The white ends are $1 and the black are $3 (it's their studio brush). I had been using some Bobbi Brown and Bare Essentials makeup brushes, but they had had more than enough wear. I stocked up on these E.l.f. ones and couldn't be happier. They are very soft!

6. E.l.f. Eyelash Curler I got this to try when I reviewed my HanaPro straightener. I love how easy this one is. It doesn't pull out my lashes and it's also not flimsy (which is important since it's messing with my beloved eyelashes!)

7. E.l.f. Matte Lip Color Besides Ulta's lipsticks I can never find any that I really, really like. I picked this up to try, not really having much faith in it, and I was so wrong! This stuff is great. I love the matte feel of it and the color is great! I have been wearing it non-stop with my sephora shine on it!

8. Sonia Kashuk Makeup Bag I have been on the search for a makeup bag that isn't expensive, yet is big enough to hold my curling iron and straightener when traveling. I happened upon this (on sale!!!) on my last trip to Target and it has fulfilled my needs. There are a lot of compartments and dividers for my makeup!

9. Ponds Luminous Effect I received this entire four piece line to try out and review and I can honestly say I have nothing but rave reviews for it! I have used all four products (face wash, exfoliating face wash, toilettes, and face lotion) and have been overly pleased. I hadn't used Pond's products before this. For a while I thought they held a stigma for older women, but that was immediately gone after using their products. My face has been 100% clear of any and all breakouts since I started using them. What makes me feel luminous? Not necessarily a spa day or an expensive creme, but a product that can make my skin feel great and make me feel like I have just left the spa!!  My face feels more soft, more bright, and overall more clean when I use the items. What also is so great is that it's affordable. I read about beauty regimens on blogs all that time that are just SO unreasonably priced. This is in my budget-and it works! Sound good to you?? You ladies can enter below to win a set for yourself! You can also enter their Luminous Effect Photo Sweepstakes on their Facebook Page

Barrister Ball Dress Options

For all of you lawyers and law student's you're familiar with the Barrister's Ball. For those of you who aren't, it's a semi-formal event at the end of the school year for those in law school. So basically, it's a law school prom! This year I have the pleasure of attending Barrister's Ball with Brian, right before he graduates law school! I am so excited. I love a good excuse to get dressed up and have some fun! But, like anything else, I am fretting over what on earth to wear.

Do I go with a long dress?
Do I stay with a short dress?
How dressy should I go?

All of those questions have been hovering over me since Brian told me the date! I love that it's Great Gatsby themed though! I've pretty much narrowed down my options to renting from Rent the Runway, but I would like a second (or third, fourth, or fifth) opinion! I have exactly one month until the ball!

Short Dress Options...
I like the idea of having a short dress the best because I know I will be more comfortable and shorter dresses tend to fit my body (and shortness) better. Here are my top seven (did I go overboard?...probably...)

one // two // three // four (one of my favorites!!!) // five // six // seven

Long Dresses Options....
While I much prefer short dresses, the beauty and sophistication of a longer dress is not lost on me! They always looks stunning on and usually make me look taller than 5'2, which is a plus! I just don't know if I want to "deal" with having on a long dress all night. Hmm, decisions, decisions!

one // two // three // four // five

And then there's the debate if I want to just wear a dress that I already have! I have my beloved Tory Burch dress that I have only worn twice that I simply love. The silvery-gold details are just plain amazing. It is comfortable and I know it fits me very well.

Here's a photo of the TB dress
Ok so....help me out! What do you think? What are your favorite long & short dresses? Should I stick with a non-rented dress of my own that I know I like?!?

Weekend Recap

Well, we're back to Monday, ladies and gents! I had quite the fun, yet relaxing weekend.
How was your weekend?

I knew I had important things to do on Saturday, so on Friday I relaxed, watched some Downton Abbey (almost done with season two now!), and cleaned out my closet. This had been needing to happen for a lonnng time. I brought over my vacuum storage bags full of spring clothes early last week and they were taunting me in my closet! I wanted to get out my spring clothes so badly that I couldn't wait any longer! I added a lot of clothes to my (already full) closet, but I also cleaned out a lot too! *I'll have a blog sale up later today or tomorrow!*

Saturday I headed to Raleigh to do some modeling for a company called Oak City Collection! They are a new company, based out of Raleigh, that specialized in bow ties and skirts! I had the pleasure of meeting a twitter friend while modeling for them, hanging out around Raleigh (which I forgot how much I loved!), and got to keep the super cute seersucker skirt I modeled! It was an absolute blast. I can't wait to share the photos from the shoot with you. We got a few sneak peeks and the photos are AWESOME! I mean really, could we have gotten more southern throughout the day?!? White column house, cornhole, seersucker, sweet tea out of mason jars, and bow ties....I don't think so!
Upon returning on Saturday night I prepped for my family's annual UNC vs. Duke game party! It was a night filled with fun, laughter, good food, and plenty of great drinks! It was such a fun time (....minus the Tarheel loss!) I only managed to get one picture from the night! Notice I'm not wearing either team's colors and Brian is wearing UConn, oops!

Sundays we have a pretty good routine going! Yesterday morning we woke up and had a delicious breakfast at a local diner. Afterwards we went for a run on the Greenway by my house. It was a beautiful day, with the high of 67 degrees. Talk about great weather....I was loving it! It definitely made the run much easier than with cold weather. We ended up getting in 2.7 miles. Since it was such a nice day we rewarded ourselves by going to have beers outside downtown! We were soaking up the great weather... I can't wait for it to be around permanently!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend and got to enjoy nice weather as well!
