Life With Emily FAQ…
How did you start your blog?
I started my blog in 2011 while I was a junior at Appalachian State University. I had been reading blogs for quite a while and finally one day I thought, “why not?” I started Life With Emily having absolutely no clue what I was doing, but used it as a creative outlet to share my day-to-day college life along with all of my favorite fashion and beauty products! Back then, the blogging scene was so different, so it’s been a lot of trial-and-error as the blogging world has continued to change and evolve.
What did you study in school?
I went to Appalachian State University and receive my Bachelor’s degree in Communication with a focus on Public Relations. My minor was sociology. I interned for a PR agency, a few non-profit organizations, and in a radio station’s event department while in college.
Who takes your photos?
I totally lucked up and found a wonderful local photographer here in Greensboro, Brian of Brian Speice Photography. We have been working together for almost one year. Before Brian and I began working together I had family members taking my photos, but to be completely honest, they didn’t always turn out as well as I hoped and then I spent hours editing them afterwards. Brian was an integral part of taking my blog to the next level with great photography. There are times when I take my own photos for the blog (or when I’m traveling my family still will!)
Help! I want to start a blog but have no idea where to begin. Can you give me some advice?
This is one question that floods my inbox constantly and I always love taking the time to answer it! My biggest piece of advice: Go for it! My blog began as a hobby and I had absolutely no clue what I was doing. I suggest starting one and coming up with a game plan, a vision of what you want. Having a vision of what you want for your blog is a force that will allow you to focus on your content, your goals, and your audience! I will say it is not a fast process; I always tell people who want to start a blog to be patient. It won’t happen overnight and it will be a lot of trial-and-error figuring out what works and what doesn’t, but that’s the fun in it! I am going to be starting a blogging series, so if you have any questions regarding blogging, please comment or email me email@example.com and I will be sure to include them!
As always, I love hearing from my readers and forming relationships and friendships with y’all! You are the reason Life With Emily exists the way it does today & I am so thankful for that! Feel free to reach out (about anything!) and I would be happy to chat with you! firstname.lastname@example.org
