Blowing Rock Mountain Road Trip

This past weekend Nick and I went to Blowing Rock for a little mountain getaway! We had been wanting to plan a mountain trip during the fall months, before it got too cold to enjoy. We both went to Appalachian State and spent a lot of time together in the Boone/Blowing Rock area so we decided to go back for the weekend.
I partnered with Southeast Toyota to test drive the new 2016 Toyota Camry and it was the perfect car to drive to the mountains. We loaded it down on Friday morning and headed off on our mountain adventure. You would have thought we were going away for a week with the way we packed (haha!) so it was a good thing the trunk was super spacious.
Of course no road trip is complete without jamming out, so being able to hook up my phone to the bluetooth audio was key! One of my favorite parts of the new Toyota Camry is the reconfigured dash. It is extremely user-friendly and easy to work. The home screen also has the option to have 3 apps viewable at once, so I chose to see the radio, weather, and navigation.
After doing some research on local hotels, we decided to stay at Green Park Inn, a historic hotel in Blowing Rock, NC. It originally opened in 1891 and is filled with history. It was the most quaint and charming hotel I’ve stayed in. Our room was very nice but still kept with the aesthetic of the hotel and contained original door knobs, fixtures, and exposed piping. It was truly a charming place! I would highly recommend if you’re visiting the High Country.
After we checked into the hotel, we stopped down the street at Canyons to grab a drink and watch the sunset. While Canyons isn’t my favorite place to eat, it is the perfect place to grab a drink & watch the sunset. The view really is spectacular…photos don’t even do it justice. For dinner we kept it low key and had an old favorite, Woodlands Barbecue
Saturday morning we woke up, grabbed a delicious breakfast at the hotel (think: biscuits & gravy for Nick, brioche french toast and bacon for me….all included in our stay!) and headed out to drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway. We couldn’t have asked for better weather while we were there. Sunny and a bit chilly…exactly how we wanted it!
The Blue Ridge Parkway was always the place we would go while in college to escape our little college town. We would drive around on the parkway for hours just taking in the leaves, the views, and the serenity. Years and years ago we discovered the best overlook trail that lead to a gorgeous creek, so we made that our destination! It was just as beautiful as I remembered it being. We spent almost two hours just walking, jumping rocks, laughing and having a great time in our old spot.
On Nick: Shirt | Vest | Jacket | Denim | Boots | Scarf | Sunglasses
Driving along the parkway was so much fun in the Camry! It handled really well along the curves and the heated seats came in handy after getting back in from the cold! After a fun day along the parkway and downtown Blowing Rock we headed back to the hotel to grab a drink at our hotel bar, The Divide. It’s name comes from being directly on the Eastern Continental Divide. The bar is original to the hotel and contains gorgeous woodwork and stand glass. We headed down the mountain to Boone for dinner. It was such a wonderful weekend spent in the mountains with Nick!
I’ll be back this week with more outfit details from our trip. Hope y’all had a great weekend. Thanks for stopping by! xx
