If you’ve been reading Life With Emily for any amount of time, then it’s no secret that I love to read! I am that girl that undoubtedly always has a book with me-whether I’m waiting to meet a friend for coffee, waiting in carpool line, etc. Anytime I post a book I’m currently reading on snapchat (add me on snapchat here) I get a TON of screenshots and messages about other book recommendations, so today I thought I would share my top summer book recommendations with you. At the bottom I’m also sharing what books are on my “next-up” shelf that I’m wanting to read!
P.S. If you have any book recommendations I would love to hear them, feel free to leave them in the comments!
Books I have read this summer
As part of my 101 in 1001 list I have challenged myself to read more since it is something I find to be relaxing and something I really enjoy. I’ve already read a fair amount of books this summer and I can’t wait to read more. I have broken these down into two categories thriller and romance! P.S. I’m not really going into detail on these books because I don’t want to spoil anything, just know they’re all highly recommended! 🙂
I read Girl On The Train back when it originally came out and I couldn’t put it down. If you haven’t read that book yet, I highly suggest reading it! If you have and can’t get enough of the psychological thriller type of book, you should add these to your list!
Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson This one was a definite page turner that I couldn’t put down! Each page left me questioning everything and the ending blew my mind! It’s also a movie with Nicole Kidman- may need to watch that!
The Good Girl by Mary Kubica This was the first book I had read by this author and I promptly went out and bought another one of her books after I finished this one! This is the tell of a kidnapping gone wrong with twists and turns that you never see coming!
What She Knew by Gilly MacMillan If I’m not mistaken, this was the book I read directly after reading The Girl on the Train and it was as much of a page turner! This was the authors debut novel and I will certainly be adding her to my favorite authors!
Pretty Baby by Mary Kubica After reading her first book, I snatched this one up at Target and it certainly didn’t disappoint. This book was so eery, but I couldn’t stop turning the pages.
Changing speeds from thriller to romance, these are all easy books that are perfect to throw in your beach and pool bags! They don’t take a lot of effort, but are page turners!
The Matchmaker by Elin Hilderbrand Elin Hildebrand is one of my favorite authors- she has a way with words that get you from the very first page. This is the book I finished most recently and really enjoyed it.
The Rumor by Elin Hilderbrand I thought this was the cutest book- I think I finished it in a day and a half by the pool a few weekends ago. It’s one of those books that goes to show you that everything isn’t always how it appears.
All Fall Down by Jennifer Weiner I borrowed this book after my mom finished it and was hesitant at first because I’ve read a few of Jennifer Weiner’s books and they were hard to get into. It’s safe to say this one was much better and a really good read!
Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline I love a book that includes history as well as a good love story and this one combines the two so perfectly! I’ve had a few people tell me this takes a little while to get into– but I always tell them to keep reading!! Those people have texted or messaged me after finishing the book saying how good it turned out to be!
Books I want to read this summer
I feel like I have a never-ending list of books I want to read (feel free to check out my Goodreads to-read shelf) but these are ones I currently own and plan to read soon! As I said above, I would love for you to let me know any book recommendations you have in the comments!
A Girl’s Guide To Moving On by Debbie Macomber
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
The Island House by Nancy Thayer
Miller’s Valley by Anna Quindlen
Me Before You by JoJo Moyes I actually started this book on Sunday and have had my nose in it ever since. I have less than 100 pages and I don’t want it to end. It is SO good! (Update: I finished it last night & cried like a baby!)
Happy reading, y’all! Leave your book recs below! XO
When you are finished with Me before You, definitely read the sequel, After You. It’s great!
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr is a great read! I finished it within a couple of days.
Me Before You was sooo good. Cried like a baby. You should move some of your Liane Moriarty (sp?) books up the list (good beach reads) and add Station Eleven.
I am reading Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult right now and loving it!! I am like you, thriller and romance! You should check this one out. I need to find you on Goodreads if we aren’t already friends.
All Lianne Moriarty, they are all so good. Loved Me Before You, just saw movie and cried all over again.
Some great suggestions! One of my favorite books of all time is Unbroken. Gripping. Amazing true story!
I’m always looking for a new book, I can’t wait to read some of these.
I am obsessed with a good chick lit book, the perfect summer beach read. I just finished “Match Me if You Can” by Michael Gorman….it was adorable. Not going to change the world, but cute nonetheless!
Love this roundup gal! Going to add a couple of these to my list!

I’ve read The Girl on the Train and it was one of my favorites, such good twists! Great recommendations!
Adding The Good Girl to my reading list. I love discovering new books.
My top recommends are Generation X by Douglas Coupland, And Then Emily Was Gone by Iain Laurie and John Lees, and Tales from Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan.
I definitely need to collect several books for this summer so I can read a couple of thangs. Loving this list, because recommendations are usually the way I decide to read something xx Adaleta Avdic
