What I’m Packing for my International Trip

It’s hard to believe that the trip we’ve been planning for almost two years is almost here! In 48 hours I’ll be hopping on a plane with my family to Barcelona, Spain! We have friends who live in Spain, so we are visiting with them for a week (staying in a villa right next door to them woohoo!) and then we’re hopping aboard a Royal Caribbean boat for a cruise around the Mediterranean. I am so incredibly excited but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a bit stressed as well! Trying to pack everything you’ll need for three and a half weeks is a struggle….especially when it all needs to fit in ONE suitcase (yep…you read that correctly!)

As an overpacker, I am really having to work on planning my outfits and packing smarter than I normally do! This means packing a lot of “basics” that can be worn and styled numerous ways. So today I wanted to share what I’m packing for the flight and a few things I’ve packed for the trip! P.S. You can follow along with my trip on IG & IG Stories @enh410 or with the hashtag #enhtravels.

ONE – EYE MASK | Since we will be flying overnight I am bringing my eye mask for the trip. This one has molded areas around your eye so that it doesn’t touch your eye area. In the past I haven’t been able to use eye masks because I couldn’t stand it touching my eyes, so this is a great alternative!

TWO – ADAPTER | This is SUPER important since we will be in a house in Spain for over a week. I am able to charge my phone and smaller devices on this adapter. I also have a larger one that is an adapter/converter combo for using my hair dryer and computer.

THREE – PASSPORT COVER | A passport is required for this trip, but having it in a cute passport cover is an added bonus! Plus it’s easier to keep up with and find in a bag!

FOUR – NECK PILLOW | I always have trouble sleeping on planes, so I’m excited about this 2-in-1 convertible pillow! It can be a neck pillow or zipped into a regular pillow.

FIVE – PORTABLE CHARGER | Having a portable charger readily available is great for any trip, but definitely when sightseeing and spending long days away from your room. This portable charger is really lightweight and can charge your phone, Apple watch, or other products easily on the go.

SIX – GIGI NEW YORK BACKPACK | I am going to be in full tourist-mode this trip (#noshame) so I am bringing a backpack that I can carry my essentials in. I love this one from Gigi New York because it’s not huge, but can hold everything I’ll need for the day.

SEVEN – COMPRESSION BAGS | In an effort to help with packing, I ordered these compression bags so that I can fit in a lot (over three weeks worth) and not take up so much space!

EIGHT – JEWELRY HOLDER | Anytime I travel I pack my most valuable jewelry on the plane with me. This jewelry holder has spots for rings, earrings, and necklaces! It’s very compact too, so it could easily fit in your bag or carryon.

NINE – SONY A5100 CAMERA | I use this camera when I travel because it’s very lightweight. It also has logging capabilities, should I ever want to start a Youtube channel. I will sometimes carry this camera instead of my DSLR because it is very compact.

TEN- CANON 70D CAMERAThis is the DSLR camera that I use to take all of my blog photos. This trip is a family vacation, but I will still want to capture moments with it!

ELEVEN – KINDLE PAPERWHITE | It’s no secret around here that I’m a big reader, so naturally I’m bringing my Kindle with me. In the past I have brought paperback books, but they take up quite a bit of space, so I opted for a paperless option this time around.

TWELVE – KATE SPADE LYLA BAG | If you’re looking for the perfect carry on bag, then look no further than this bag. It is a really great size, has adjustable straps, and a shoulder strap!

THIRTEEN – BEATS HEADPHONESThere’s nothing worse than hearing a crying baby or other people’s conversations on long flights. I’m bringing my headphones to catch up on podcasts, TV shows, and to drown out the noise.

STRIPED TOPS | I love striped tops, so I’m bringing quite a few with me on this trip. They’re usually pretty easy to style differently and can be worn with a LOT of other stuff!

SUNGLASSES | This one is a no brainer. I cannot stop wearing these sunglasses. I think I want them in the matte black next!

STATEMENT EARRINGS |I’m bringing a few pair of statement earrings because they will easily dress up any outfit. I love these earrings because they can go with a lot!

BACKPACK | I’m using this backpack on the plane to hold my computer, etc. I will likely use it on the days where our itinerary is long, that way I can keep extra items (like sunscreen, sandals, etc.) in it.

SWIM COVERUP | I love this swim coverup because it is super flow and could almost pass for a regular dress!

ADIDAS STAN SMITH SNEAKERS | These are hands down my most comfortable (and stylish) sneakers. I plan on wearing these sneakers when we’re doing a lot of walking, but still want to look decent haha.

TORY BURCH MILLER SANDALSMy Tory Burch sandals are some of my favorites because they’re comfortable and go with so much.

SWIMSUITS | I’m packing quite a few swimsuits for this trip too. My favorite one might just be this scalloped edge one piece suit.

SWING DRESSES | These dresses are so easy to wear and are relatively cool when exploring! I also like that they can be styled with scarfs, denim jackets, and other accessories for a new look.

DENIM JACKET | Even though it’s going to be pretty warm while we are there, it may get a little chilly at night when we are by the water. Plus I’m the girl that’s always cold everywhere I go haha

SOLUDOS | These are very comfortable shoes, if you’re looking for a stylish option. I have been able to walk around in these leather espadrilles for hours on end in them!

NIKE TENNIS SHOES | I just ordered these sneakers in the cream option and plan on wearing them for the plane ride!

DENIM SHORTS | I will definitely be packing a lot of denim shorts for this trip because they are so easy to wear and can be worn with a lot of tops.

Love your choices! In a week I’m leaving for a month in California and I’m taking on a carry on. I’ve got to pack for two different climates (LA and SF) and also workout gear bc I’m training for a half marathon. It has been a challenger to say the least! I’m packing lots of basic items with jewelry and scarves to change it up. I have he same eye mask, travel pillow, and compression bags. They work great!

So jealous of your trip! I am also a habitual overpacker but when we went to Europe a few years ago, I somehow managed to do 19 days in just a carry on! It was a miracle! ha! There are SO many cute things here though! Hope you have the best time!

  15. I’m loving following along on your trip — it looks beautiful! We all did a single carry on when I went to Europe two years ago and it made me so stressed; it looks like you did a great job of figuring out which basics you could get the most wear out of!

Hey Emily! I’d love to hear how your Spain trip was! I am headed there in about a month and would love some tips or recommendations. Appreciate the packing list you did here and would love a follow up (would you recommend, after the fact, not packing some things or are there items you didn’t pack but wish you had??) I know Spain will be hot at the end of August so it’ll be a light packing occasion.

    Thanks!
