Wedding Wednesday: Choosing Wedding Shoes

With less than three months until our wedding day, we have been making decisions left and right lately! It feels so good to see our vision come to life and to finally be able to check some things off of our to-do list! I will say, I’m really glad we did a big chunk of our planning in the beginning because there are many decisions to make over the next 72 days (!!!!) I’ll give a planning update next week, but today I wanted to chat about another decision…. which wedding shoes to choose!

I am a shoe lover through and through, so I thought this would be an easy decision for me. Turns out I was so wrong! Since saying “yes” to the dress, I have had a pretty strong idea of what I’ve wanted to wear in terms of accessories, but for some reason shoes have me thrown for a loop. I couldn’t decide if I wanted a classic pair, something glam, or wanted to have my shoes be my “something blue.” I can’t even begin to tell you how many pair I have tried on in store, ordered online only to return, or have sent pics of to my bridesmaids (sorry, love y’all!!)

Anyways, I *finally* decided on my shoes and I couldn’t love them more! Today I wanted to share a few pair of wedding shoe options with y’all (in case you’re like me and have a hard time deciding) and chat through what helped me make my decision!

THINGS TO THINK ABOUT WHEN CHOOSING YOUR WEDDING SHOES

YOUR VENUE | It’s important to think of your venue when you’re choosing your shoes for your big day. If you’re getting married on the lawn, be careful of choosing stilettos because they can easily get stuck!

STYLE | When it comes to choosing your wedding shoes, think about your dress and the overall style of your wedding. Do the ones you have your eye on match your dress? But beyond that, do they match your personality?! Let your personality shine through all aspects of your wedding, down to the shoes. If you’ve got a bit of sass, let that show in the pair of shoes you choose!

FIT | Since you’re going to be wearing these shoes for a long period, making sure you have the right fit is key. Many shoes come in Narrow and Wide options, so be sure if that is an option to choose the one that works best for your feet.

BUDGET | Your wedding shoes don’t have to break the bank. And just because you’re wearing them on your wedding day, it doesn’t mean they have to be designer. If you have a favorite brand of shoes that are affordable and your style, look into that brand for your wedding shoes! If you have a pair that you already have worn in & feel comfortable in then wear them! Whenever I buy anything I ask myself “Can I wear this at least five different times or five different occasions?” If the answer is yes, then I will think about buying it. You can use this same thought process when it comes to your wedding shoes. There’s nothing wrong with buying wedding shoes that you can wear again (in fact: I encourage it!)

COMFORT | Sure, having a cute shoe is great… but just remember you will be spending all day in these shoes so make sure they are comfortable! While it may be tempting to purchase a shoe because of it’s look, you should ask yourself a few questions before purchasing. Will be able to feel comfortable in the shoe for a long period of time? Will you be able to dance the night away in them?

Be sure to leave yourself enough time to break your shoes in. Wear them around the house. Wear them to your dance lessons, if you’re taking them. And really try to have them fully broken in by your wedding day so you can dance the night away without the fear of blisters!

P.S. Make sure you have your shoes by your first dress fitting, as you will want to wear them when having any alterations done!

WEDDING SHOE OPTIONS

Below I’m breaking down a few different styles and sharing a few of my favorites for each category (at every price point!) I would love to hear what wedding shoes you wore down the aisle on your wedding day!

THE GLAM WEDDING SHOE

If you want a little (or a lot) of glam on your wedding day, then you’re sure to love these options! All of these shoes add a fun element to your wedding day style! Badgley Mischka is a bride favorite when it comes to wedding shoes. They also have a new line, Jewel by Badgley Mischka, that offers similar designs, but at a more affordable price point.

THE CLASSIC WEDDING SHOE

You can never go wrong with a classic! This style of shoe can go with glam wedding gowns or minimalistic wedding dresses. There are a lot of brands that make great wedding shoes, but I have always been a fan of the ones from Kate Spade! She has a lot of really great classic wedding shoes (and a few fun ones too!) I like that most of them maintain a modest heel height, so you can feel comfortable in them all night.

THE “TRENDY” WEDDING SHOE

Are you the girl who always has the latest trend in your closet? If you want to incorporate a trend into your wedding day look, then these shoes are a great way to do it! A few of my favorite brands that always have great, on-trend shoes are Stuart Weitzman, Loeffler Randall, and Aquazzura. These brands always make me think of lace up, chunky heels, and velvet!

THE COMFORTABLE SHOE

If you don’t typically wear heels, then don’t feel like you have to on your wedding day! Go with the shoes that you will be comfortable wearing all night long. You can always have a “backup pair” that are comfortable should your shoes become uncomfortable. I plan on having a tried-and-true backup pair of shoes to wear just in case (better to be safe than sorry!) P.S. If you choose to go from heels to flats, make sure there isn’t a major difference in height since your alterations will be based on your heels. You don’t want to be holding your dress up all night in sandals.

Thanks so much for stopping by, y’all! I can’t wait to share more updates with y’all as we get closer & closer to our big day!

Comfort is key! I wore white satin ballet flats and wouldn’t have dreamed of wearing anything else. I didn’t want to be focusing on my feet on my big day, and since my dress was long, no one even saw or knew what kind of shoes I was wearing. Silly to buy something fancy if no one will see them!

  12. I ended up going with a simple ankle-wrapped sandal and was super happy I did! I had a few friends who had embellishments on their shoes that ended up getting caught in the fabric of their dresses.
