28 Things About Me

Today is my 28th birthday! Woohoo. I’m not big on celebrating my birthday, but I thought it would be really fun to share 28 (random) things about me in celebration of my 28th birthday! I always really enjoy reading these type of posts and I hope it allows you to learn a little more about me. I hope y’all have a great day. I’m relaxing a bit today- grabbing lunch & getting my nails done and then I have a birthday dinner tonight and tomorrow night with family. Here’s to hoping 28 is the best year yet!

SWIMSUIT | DENIM SHORTS | PRINTED BANDANA

  1. I have lived in North Carolina my whole life & I don’t think I ever want to leave. Don’t get me wrong, I love visiting other places, but I feel like North Carolina will always be “home” to me. I love being 3 hours from both the beach and the mountains.
  2. I am naturally blonde. I have never colored or highlighted my hair. I get my blonde hair from my dad.
  3. I am a cat mom to our sweet kitty, Charlie. I adopted him when he was 8 weeks old and he’s now 5.5 years old.
  4. I’m the oldest of four siblings. I have two sisters, ages 14 and 17 and one brother who is 21.
  5. I am 5’2″ and the shortest person in my family. All of my siblings are WAY taller than me.
  6. My parents have been divorced since I was young. Both are re-married and all four of them get along great. Each of them have made having a blended family so easy & I’m so grateful for how well they get along. It makes life SO much easier.
  7. I am a SUPER picky eater. I just started eating salads in the past year or so…and I’m even picky about those ha (I love field greens and hate iceberg/romaine lettuce!)
  8. I am not a morning person or a night owl really. But if I had to choose, I would rather stay up late than wake up early.
  9. I have a lot of freckles and they come out a lot in the summer. I get them from both sides of my family and it’s something that I’m really insecure about and try to cover up as much as I can.
  10. I prefer even numbers. I always keep my TV volume and radio volume on an even number. Anyone else do this?!
  11. I am a really sarcastic person and have a dry sense of humor, which can be hard to portray over the internet ha!
  12. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies. So far in 2018 I have read 22 books and over 8,000 pages.
  13. I’m left handed. I was in the hospital for a few days when I was younger and they put the IV in my right hand. While I was in the hospital I colored with my left hand and it just kind of stuck!
  14. I’m a big crier. I relate SO much to Kristen Bell when she was on Ellen and said “If I’m not between a 3-7 on the emotional scale, I’m crying!” If you have no clue what I’m talking about watch this Kristen Bell sloth video… still one of the best moments on Ellen haha.
  15. I really love listening to and watching murder mystery stuff. I totally get this from my mom. We text about the latest crime shows we’ve watched or a good thriller we’ve read often.
  16. Going off of the fact above, I’m also a scaredy cat. Anytime I watch or listen to anything about murder or crime I get SO paranoid and scared that I’m going to be murdered or kidnapped. Totally irrational, I know ha! But it’s also made me more observant of my surroundings.
  17. I am near-sided in one eye and far-sided in the other. Basically one of my eyes is constantly straining. I need to get better about wearing my glasses- otherwise it causes intense headaches.
  18. Speaking of headaches, I used to get really, really horrible migraines. To the point that they would immobilize me and I would spend much of the day in bed. I had tried a few things (none of which worked) and decided to try not drinking milk to see if it helped. I haven’t drank milk (which used to be my FAVORITE) in over 3 months and have only had one migraine since. Having such bad headaches at least 10+ days out of the month was debilitating and scary, but I’m so glad that making one small change was all that needed to happen.
  19. I still have my baby pillow that I got when I was born and I sleep with it almost every night. It’s funny because when the “five facts” tag was going around on IG stories so many people said they still had their baby pillow/toy from their childhood. It’s much more normal than we think ha!
  20. I was on the girl’s golf team in high school. It’s a hobby I took up when I moved to Greensboro and I really enjoyed it. But I can’t even tell you the last time I picked up my clubs. I want to get back on the course this summer though!
  21. I am a super outgoing person and almost never meet a stranger. I love meeting new people and I’m very talkative. Growing up almost every one of my report cards said “great student… but talks too much in class!” Some things never change…!
  22. Before I got braces I had a huge gap between my two front teeth. It was so big that I could put a tic-tac through it. After I got my braces off they put a permanent retainer behind my teeth. Well, in college I was studying for finals and broke my permanent retainer on a bagel. I couldn’t go home for another week (due to finals) and during that time a small gap appeared. I used to be really self-conscious about it, but over time I’ve gotten over it. It’s part of what makes me, me. That, and I don’t want to get braces again!
  23. I am absolutely terrified of the doctor. I cannot stand blood, needles, veins… anything relating to the doctor. I get so anxious and my palms get sweaty every time I think about it. Almost every single time I’m at the doctor I pass out. It’s both scary and incredibly embarrassing. I’ve been to the doctor three times this year and I’ve passed out two out of three times. I wish there was something I could do to help or prevent it.
  24. For the longest time I wasn’t sure if I wanted to have kids. There wasn’t one thing that made me feel that way, but it just wasn’t something I was sure I wanted. Over the years I have changed my mind and I do eventually want kids, but the thought of it scares the absolute shit out of me. Just being totally candid. Maybe the fact that hospitals and doctor’s visit are heavily involved has something to do with it ha 😉
  25. If I had to choose one food to eat the rest of my life I would probably choose pizza. Pizza is a food group for me! 😉
  26. I broke my ankle when I was ten years old on the trampoline at my gymnastics center. I broke my fibula, tibia & growth plate. I was in a cast up to my hip for over 11 weeks and basically had to re-learn how to walk when I got it off. It will occasionally hurt when the weather changes.
  27. If I wasn’t a blogger I would want to be an event planner. This is what I wanted to be when I graduated college, but life had other plans at the time. In addition to blogging, I handle social accounts and marketing for two other companies in my area.
  28. I don’t really like sweets! And I don’t like chocolate at all unless it has peanut butter with it (love Reese’s!) I would much prefer a salty snack, like Goldfish, to anything sweet.

Whoa! Coming up with 28 facts about myself was a little more difficult than I thought it would be! I had such a fun time compiling these facts & I hope it helped you learn a little bit more about me! I would love to hear a fact or two about you in the comments. XO

I used to be like you with doctors and passing out. My trick was that I would ask to have my blood taken laying completely flat. It helps tremendously. I was worried about getting pregnant for the same reasons, and honestly it was fine. I had two kids and now I’m over my phobia completely. I give blood sitting up. Even can watch my kids have it taken, shots etc. No biggie. Being pregnant cured me because once you start worrying more for your child than yourself it makes you not care as much about your own fears. Does that make sense?

That makes TOTAL sense, Melissa & makes me feel a whole lot better about the process! It’s funny how your own fears get pushed aside when you’re not only thinking of and taking care of yourself anymore! Thanks for your comment! XO

Happy birthday! I hope you have a wonderful day that kicks off the best year yet. A fun fact about me is that I am left handed too, and am the only person in my family who writes that way. xAllie http://www.theallthatglittersblog.com

Thank you Allie! Being left handed was such an inconvenience in school, but now I don’t mind it much (aside from smudging papers with my hand ha!) My husband is also left handed.

Happy birthday! It’s funny that I didn’t realize we have so much in common. I’ve only ever lived in NC, went to ASU, picky eater, short, freckles, migraines, afraid of shots/doctors (but I got over it), love murder shows, still sleep with my baby pillow, PIZZA 😍, gap between my teeth before braces, etc!!!

It’s actually crazy how many of these I relate to… I cry ALL the time about everything, I HATE needles and usually pass out, I’ve got a 5 year old kitty that I adopted at 8 weeks old in Boone, I read all murder mysteries and every time my husband is out of town, I convince myself there’s a murderer in the house, pizza is 100% my favorite food and having children terrifies me even though I would love to have 3… I was also crazy blind until last month when I had LASIK! Best decision of my entire life! Love reading more about you!!

Happy Birthday Emily! I love this post and your blog. I completely agree that pizza is its own food group and I am also not a sweets person, but I do love me some peanut butter chocolate. I hope you have fun celebrating. Cheers!

When the time comes for babies, check out a birthing center! Baby + Co in Winston Salem is amazing and unlike a doctor’s office. You can give birth there in a comfy bedroom with a queen bed!

“Virgin” hair is such a rarity these days–I know because I have never colored or highlighted mine either! Would you ever consider letting your hair grow, then cutting and donating it? I have donated 10+ inches on 2 different occasions–it gives me such a sense of satisfaction! 🙂 Happy birthday to you! Cheers to 28!

      Hi Amy,

Totally agree! I get a lot of emails wondering what I “ask” for to get my hair color. I always feel like I’m letting them down when I tell them it’s never been colored! 🙈

And I’m so glad you mentioned donating my hair. I have done it on 3 or 4 different occasions over the years! The only let down is because my hair is so thin, one time they weren’t able to take it because it was thin and not very even 🙁 but I agree; it is such a wonderful feeling knowing that it’s going to someone in need. I make sure to donate (not only my hair!) but also time, money, and clothing/beauty products whenever I can! Nothing better than giving back! 🙂

Thanks for commenting and for your well wishes. Xo

Birthday buddy!! Hope you had a great one and I always love reading posts like these. I’m with you on the kids thing- I definitely want one but I’m not one of those people that “was solely put on this earth to be a mother”, I just hope I can balance it all one day. What scares me is my life completely changing- but I know it will all be worth it!

I could have written almost all these facts (except I don’t mind doctors and hospitals and I’ve always wanted kids)!
But we both love to read, both love murder mystery, I’m into blogging and event planning, I prefer even numbers, I’m a scaredy cat, I’m a picky eater although better with salads too, my parents are divorced and I’ve also always struggled with migraines!!
    So so crazy! x

Happy birthday again lovely lady x
