It’s no secret around here that I am an avid reader! I mean, just take a look at my reading lists, each month is filled with some pretty great reads. If you have been reading my reading lists and book reviews for some time, you may have noticed that each month typically includes a book or two from Book of the Month in the round up. That’s because I truly love the Book of the Month subscription box and what it has to offer. Lately I have been getting quite a few questions about Book of the Month, so today I thought I would share all the details about the BOTM subscription box and why I love it!Back in 2016 I discovered Book of the Month (I can’t even remember how!) and was immediately intrigued. The premise is pretty simple – on the first of each month, Book of the Month (BOTM for short) announces the five book selections for the month. Each book is thoughtfully chosen by their team and typically falls into one of these categories: literary/contemporary fiction, mystery/thriller, nonfiction, historical fiction, or fantasy/sci-fi. For $14.99/month you get to choose one of the five books and can add on up to two other books for $9.99 each. They are all hardback books so it’s a great deal, since most hardback books are at least $25!
There are so many perks to joining BOTM club including getting a free book on me if you join HERE, getting a free book on your birthday & getting a book tote with your 12th box! Of the five books, usually at least one is an exclusive, meaning BOTM members get it before it’s released to the public! For each book they also do a “quick take” description of the book, followed by “good to know” facts about the book, like if it’s a fast read, multiple viewpoints, if it contains social issues, etc. I always find those points super helpful when making my decision(s). From there you can also read Editor reviews, a synopsis of the book & even read a free preview of the book to make sure it’s for you! What I also love about BOTM is that if none of the books are speaking to you OR you just have a TBR stack that’s a mile high, you can skip the month and use your credit for the following month.
Book of the Month has been a great way to read new-to-me authors, try out different genres of books that I wouldn’t typically read, and a great way to pick up some great books by debut authors! Many of the books end up being bestsellers, so you know you’re going to get a great book no matter which one you choose! Since 2016 I have ordered 40 books and most of them have been really, really good! Just like with anything there have been a few duds, but for the most part I have been extremely pleased with the selections each and every month.
Some of my favorite BOTM titles have been The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah, How to Walk Away by Katherine Center, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Book of Essie by Meghan MacLean Weir, No Exit by Taylor Adams and Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. If you’re convinced after those titles to join after hearing some of the titles that have been BOTM selections then sign up for BOTM and get a free add-on book HERE! P.S. If you’re not a reader but know someone who would enjoy this monthly service, you can gift it to them! They offer one, three, six, or twelve month gifts! Let me know if you end up joining Book of the Month!
BOTM is the best! I love that I end up choosing books outside of my comfort zone. It has definitely expanded my reading and I had already considered myself a well-rounded reader.
What?! How could I have not known about this?!? This seems right up my alley, I’m checking this out immediately! Thanks for sharing. 🙂 Xx, C
Love BOTM! I have been a member for years! It is a great gift for others as well. The quality of the books is amazing. Make sure to follow the instagram page for updates and revealings of the celebrity book picker each month!
SUCH a clever concept! i wish we had this in South Africa x
OK, this is the best thing I’ve read all week. So do you get to keep the book? Or do you have to give it back each month when you get a new book? I need to know! 🙂

You get to keep the book(s) that you choose 🙂

Sounds like a great book service!
This sounds so cool and I’d never heard of anything like this – thank you for suggesting this!
I remember trying out BOTM literally YEARS ago – and I didn’t see the appeal at the time because I basically never branched out of the sci-fi/fantasy genre, and BOTM doesn’t offer as many of those books. However, now I read all sorts of books, so it would probably be an awesome investment for me to make!
How have I never heard of this! I totally need to hop on board. It sounds amazing.
Okay this is the coolest thing ever! I 100% need to sign up for this. Love that you receive a free book on your birthday – that is too sweet.

I joined BOTM after seeing your post about it and I’m so glad I did! have read some awesome books (No Exit, Book of Essie, An Anonymous Girl etc.) I hit my 1 year mark and got both a birthday book and my tote!
This is such a cool idea! I never thought about getting a book subscription box but this is so smart! It would certainly ensure that I read all year!
Wow, I’ve never heard of Book Of The Month! I definitely need to look into this! What a great gift.
Your book recommendations always make me want to try BOTM! I’m so bad with keeping up on my current reads but this may help me read at least one book a month.
