All About Book of the Month & Why I Love It

It’s no secret around here that I am an avid reader! I mean, just take a look at my reading lists, each month is filled with some pretty great reads. If you have been reading my reading lists and book reviews for some time, you may have noticed that each month typically includes a book or two from Book of the Month in the round up. That’s because I truly love the Book of the Month subscription box and what it has to offer. Lately I have been getting quite a few questions about Book of the Month, so today I thought I would share all the details about the BOTM subscription box and why I love it!Back in 2016 I discovered Book of the Month (I can’t even remember how!) and was immediately intrigued. The premise is pretty simple – on the first of each month, Book of the Month (BOTM for short) announces the five book selections for the month. Each book is thoughtfully chosen by their team and typically falls into one of these categories: literary/contemporary fiction, mystery/thriller, nonfiction, historical fiction, or fantasy/sci-fi. For $14.99/month you get to choose one of the five books and can add on up to two other books for $9.99 each. They are all hardback books so it’s a great deal, since most hardback books are at least $25!There are so many perks to joining BOTM club including getting a free book on me if you join HERE, getting a free book on your birthday & getting a book tote with your 12th box! Of the five books, usually at least one is an exclusive, meaning BOTM members get it before it’s released to the public! For each book they also do a “quick take” description of the book, followed by “good to know” facts about the book, like if it’s a fast read, multiple viewpoints, if it contains social issues, etc. I always find those points super helpful when making my decision(s). From there you can also read Editor reviews, a synopsis of the book & even read a free preview of the book to make sure it’s for you! What I also love about BOTM is that if none of the books are speaking to you OR you just have a TBR stack that’s a mile high, you can skip the month and use your credit for the following month.Book of the Month has been a great way to read new-to-me authors, try out different genres of books that I wouldn’t typically read, and a great way to pick up some great books by debut authors! Many of the books end up being bestsellers, so you know you’re going to get a great book no matter which one you choose! Since 2016 I have ordered 40 books and most of them have been really, really good! Just like with anything there have been a few duds, but for the most part I have been extremely pleased with the selections each and every month. Some of my favorite BOTM titles have been The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah, How to Walk Away by Katherine Center, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, The Book of Essie by Meghan MacLean Weir, No Exit by Taylor Adams and Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. If you’re convinced after those titles to join after hearing some of the titles that have been BOTM selections then sign up for BOTM and get a free add-on book HERE! P.S. If you’re not a reader but know someone who would enjoy this monthly service, you can gift it to them! They offer one, three, six, or twelve month gifts! Let me know if you end up joining Book of the Month!

happy reading!

BOTM is the best! I love that I end up choosing books outside of my comfort zone. It has definitely expanded my reading and I had already considered myself a well-rounded reader.

  5. OK, this is the best thing I’ve read all week. So do you get to keep the book? Or do you have to give it back each month when you get a new book? I need to know! 🙂

I remember trying out BOTM literally YEARS ago – and I didn’t see the appeal at the time because I basically never branched out of the sci-fi/fantasy genre, and BOTM doesn’t offer as many of those books. However, now I read all sorts of books, so it would probably be an awesome investment for me to make!

  15. Your book recommendations always make me want to try BOTM! I’m so bad with keeping up on my current reads but this may help me read at least one book a month.

  • 24 weeks with our baby boy🤰🏼💙 it’s crazy to think we get to meet him in just 16 weeks, it feels like this pregnancy has flown by! 👶🏻I feel grateful that I have had a healthy & happy pregnancy but, to be honest, the last few weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions. As a first time mom, I have these feelings of immense sadness as the last half of this pregnancy is going to be nothing like I had envisioned. There have been a lot of tears over the fact that many exciting moments can no longer be shared with those closest to us. I know others have it much, much worse but I’ve learned it’s ok to be sad & to feel these emotions. I’m upset that I am no longer able to have a baby shower to celebrate our first born, I’m sad I don’t get to hug our family and watch their faces as they see my growing bump. I’m upset that these last few months of just the two of us look completely different - more time spent in our house quarantined and less time having date nights at our favorite spots and doing the things we want before baby arrives. I mourn the fact that our families may not get to meet our baby boy in the hospital the way we always talked about. But with any situation, I have cried it out (a lot) and decided to take it one day at a time and to find joy in each day💙 And ya know what? There’s a lot of joy amidst the chaos. It brings me so much joy to feel his daily movement (and my heart nearly burst when Nick felt him kick for the first time).🥰I am overjoyed that we have such a strong support system near and far. I love that we get to spend more time at home spoiling our fur babies. I find solace knowing that there are so many pregnant mamas out there feeling these exact emotions & we share a common experience and bond! I am grateful for those that are on the front lines caring for everyone. I know we have the best doctors carrying us through this uncertain time. We are strong mamas and we will get through this! 💕 so, I challenge you to find the join in each day no matter your situation! #24weekspregnant #24weeks #pregnancy #2ndtrimester #stylethebump #bumpstyle #pregnant #pregnantduringcovid19 #pregnantblogger #thebump #boymom #expecting #expectingmom

  • How’s everyone doing? 💙 I’m taking it one day (heck, sometimes one hour!) at a time this week!

Here are a few things I’m grateful for:
• Getting to check on our baby boy👶🏻& hear his heartbeat today!
• That I am able to work from home & have some sense of normalcy through all of this👩🏼‍💻.
• Those who are working & caring for others (including doctors, nurses, delivery drivers, those who work at grocery stores & restaurants handling takeout).
• Having this community to chat with through the good & bad days! It’s been so nice connecting with all of you via DM (especially those who are pregnant or new moms!) as we juggle this new “normal.”

  • Hi friends 👋🏻It’s a new week & I’m going into it with a positive attitude (that’s all we can hope for at this point, right?) 💙I’m social distancing & self quarantining in an effort to “flatten the curve.” We spent the weekend going on walks with our pup🐶, getting in a lot of reading📚, binging Love is Blind📺 and cooking some of our favorite meals🍽! We’re trying to remain positive & do the best we can to protect ourselves and others 😊 p.s.
