Empty House Tour & Our Plans for It!

Happy Wednesday, y’all! It’s hard to believe we have been in our home for almost three months now! Over the last few months we have felt *all* the emotions -from joy and excitement to being stressed and overwhelmed! Buying a house is so exciting but can also be a little crazy at times! I thought it would be fun to do a mini empty house tour today for y’all and chat about the plans we have for our space over time! When we originally walked into this home we loved the layout. It was open without being a fully open concept home. It wasn’t super old, but still had character & best of all we could see the potential of what it could be one day.

p.s. sorry that these aren’t the best quality pics. I took them quickly the day we closed when the lighting wasn’t great! But I knew I wanted to have some empty house photos to look back on later! All of these pictures were taken before the cleaners & carpet cleaners had arrived haha so ignore the stains. Luckily they all came up!

mini house tour & our plans for each room

Nick and I both consider ourselves to be decently handy and quick learners, so we’re excited to take on some projects. And bless my dad because he can literally do it all, so let’s just say there are plenty of weekend projects that he will be helping us with! On the day we closed new blinds were installed (the old owner still had metal mini blinds… YUCK!) and that has made a world of difference, so I’m excited to see how our house evolves and changes with each project.

This past weekend my dad came up and helped us install our Nest cameras, added new flood lights to our home, and made some fixes from the inspection. While he did the hard stuff we did some yard work (hey, we know our strong suits and fixing window sills isn’t one of them haha!) We also painted our door and even though it’s a small change, it’s made a BIG difference! We want to have the whole house painted eventually and have all of the trim painted white. While we don’t necessarily mind the light cream trim, it can be tricky to choose paint colors that don’t “clash” with it! We also want to remove the carpet in the living room and upstairs hallway and replace it with hardwoods eventually as well as update the light fixtures throughout the house…There’s always a project ha!

formal living room

We really liked this space and we are excited to see how it comes together. Right now it consists of the items we have that will fit the space. We have some ideas for the space but it’s fine for now! We have our old couch, a few bookshelves and a piano from Nick’s childhood in there, which is special!

dining room

We loved that this home had a formal dining area. We have dreamed of having our family and friends over to entertain (especially for holidays!) and now we have the space to do that. We want to do drapes in here, switch out the light fixture, add wainscoting or board and batten & give it a full paint job. We have picked out a gorgeous navy for this room and think this will be a great weekend project this fall.

living room

We loved the space because it felt cozy, but was still open to the kitchen, much like our apartment. We ended up laying out our furniture almost exactly as it was in our apartment. We can’t wait to decorate this space for Christmas! A few things we want to do this space is to update the fireplace and replace the black area with a different tile so that it fits in better. Eventually we want to add hardwoods into this room since it’s the only room downstairs that has carpet.

This is the space that needs the most work & luckily that’s something we were aware of and ok with during the first showing. We could definitely see the potential though, since it had nice painted wood cabinets. Right now it’s just very, very *white* ha! We really like the space and flow of the kitchen (especially the breakfast nook area) and think once it is finished it will be so great. For the time being we are living with it how it is so that we can take our time compiling ideas and seeing what we like/don’t like about the layout of the kitchen. Eventually we will replace the laminate counters with either granite or quartz (or something like that!), replace the existing appliances for stainless steel appliances, paint the cabinets a different white hue, add a backsplash, paint the walls and replace the tile. There are a few other projects we have in mind, but I won’t bore you with those haha!

For the hall bath we want to switch out the vanity, add a fun tile, do headboard or board & batten and either wall paper the remainder or choose a paint color based on the tile! The master bathroom is functional but needs some cosmetic work. We’re still compiling ideas for now but we definitely want to switch out the vanity & light fixtures, add some color and eventually update the tile.

We definitely have our work cut out for us, but we’re both excited to take on these projects as we make our first home very much “us!” I know we will look back on the photos a few months from now and be amazed at the progress!

What a gorgeous home! I personally would recommend quartz. I had to have marble and 100% regret it. It got destroyed so quickly which is just part of owning marble and living with it. But I’d rather have had quartz that looks more pristine no matter what life throws at it.
