My Monthly Recap – May 2020

It’s time for another monthly recap. Take a peek at previous recaps here!

highlights

Another month of quarantine has come and gone! May was much like the last two months as I spent most of it at home for the shelter-in-place order! Our state has started to open things up in phases, but I am still being extra cautious and haven’t had any outings just yet! While I’m anxious to get out and have a sense of normalcy, I’m focused more on the health of my baby and myself! I know I’ll look back and be happy that I had these “slower” months!

In May we celebrated Nick’s 32nd birthday! While we weren’t able to do anything special like I typically plan, we made it special at home with his favorite meal and dessert! We also spent the month going on a lot of neighborhood walks, prepping our house for baby & soaking in all the time together!

Like I said above, a lot of this month was spent organizing and nesting for the arrival of our baby boy! We suddenly have an influx of all the baby things and really had to re-work certain spaces in our home to make everything more functional! It’s been really nice to purge and get rid of a lot of stuff that had accumulated over the last year!

books I read this month

May ended up being a pretty good reading month for me! I read a mix of books, but mostly stayed within the contemporary romance genre, and honestly, sometimes that’s just what I need! They were books I could easily escape to and not think about too much while reading them! You can see my May reading list here & I keep all of my recommendations in my Amazon shop! My favorites of the month were Feels Like Falling & The Happy Ever After Playlist!

At the beginning of May I had a bit of a pregnancy scare when I went in for a routine doctor’s appointment. I had been having some isolated back pain on my right side, so they ran a few tests to see if it was an infection or something to do with my kidneys, but both checked out ok. At my next appointment at week 30 they ended up doing an ultrasound to make sure everything was still going well and they discovered two hemorrhages in my placenta (meaning my placenta was pulling away from my uterus – if they got worse it could mean lack of oxygen/nutrition to the baby or a placental abruption).

I truly can’t even express how it felt to find out that news alone and while wearing a mask. I was so hot and overwhelmed that I basically “blacked out” and didn’t even know what to say or ask. It’s never easy hearing bad news, but to not have my husband there with me was even more difficult. I ended up getting into my car after the appointment and just cried. I got home, spoke with Nick, and we called the on-call nurse to gather more information. I spent the next week on modified bedrest, got little sleep, and was worried sick about the effects this could have on myself and our baby. Luckily at my 31 week appointment both of the hemorrhages had shrunk, but we’ve still been keeping an eye on things since this could effect my labor. I kept this info to myself (and family) for the last few weeks as we processed and navigated everything, but wanted to be really open and share the not-so-good moments of pregnancy too.

what I purchased

I haven’t been buying much for myself lately since I haven’t had anywhere to wear anything!
these nursing bras | I have heard such great things about this brand for pumping & nursing. Can’t wait to try them out!
cute cropped pajama set | I have been loving the cropped pajama bottoms lately and the print on these are adorable! These also have cooling technology, which is much needed these days!
kimono sleeve robe | I grabbed this for my hospital bag, plus it will be great postpartum too!

Current favorites on repeat

  • BEAUTY: this volumizing &  lengthening mascara has been my favorite lately. It has been a few years since using this one, but I’m happy it’s back in rotation.
  • CLOTHING: these denim shorts have been perfect for the hot temperatures lately!
  • TV SHOWS: we have been watching the latest season of Top Chef and we finished up the new seasons of Dead to Me and Defending Jacob!
  • AUDIOBIOOK: I’m currently listening to The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires! It’s totally out of my realm, but it’s such a good listen! Plus, the narrator is one of my favorites.
  • CURRENTLY READING: I’m about halfway through Pretty Things by Janelle Brown and I’m really liking it.

It breaks my heart to hear what you’ve been going through during the last few weeks of your pregnancy. I’m hoping and praying for only good things from this point on. I can’t even imagine how challenging it is to go to those appointments alone. One of my childhood best friends is also walking through her first pregnancy right now, and she’s experiencing that as well, and it makes me so sad. But hopefully there will be positive changes by the time baby arrives! Sending you love!
